nice weekend
On October 14-15, Suellyn and I went to Chillicothe for the presentations about the new "Spruce Hill" reserve effort and the picnic at the Hopewell National Historical Park . (The hard work by Highlands, the national park service and many others this year to purchase the ancient fortress overlooking Paint Creek between Chillicothe and Highlands Nature Sanctuary is probably going to succeed -if the other half of the purchase price can be raised by December.)

Then, we got on the bus with the other scores of people to hike up to the site.

After returning to Chillicothe, we ended the beautiful day by camping at my land on the Scioto not far south of Chillicothe.

We enjoyed the stars and the glow-worms along the water's edge and a nice campfire.

In the morning we had breakfast on the new dock Brian built this summer and then launched my Porta-bote for a wonderful journey both upstream and down. The water level has not been this low since 1988 but we had no problems.

Brian lives on the hill across the road from my land and he built the dock for free in exchange for also being allowed to use it himself and for keeping an eye on the property for me since I don't live nearby.

I thank Suellyn for taking these pictures:
