good summer so far
I've been busy enjoying summer so I forget to make journal entries.

On Friday, I went 5-3/4 miles up the Stillwater River and back from my landing across McKinley Park from my condo. It was wonderful, especially since I totally mastered keeping the long skinny kayak upright now. I'm no more likely to capsize now than to fall over riding a bike.

The river is terribly shallow so I got a workout for other muscles because I had to get out and pull the kayak behind me on its rope for a short stretch about every half mile through sections only 3 or 4 inches deep.

Then, on Tuesday I found a May, 1960 Popular Science article with detailed plans for building a simple primitive hydrofoil boat from hardware store items. It flew about 8 inches above the water on the foils and achieved 35 miles per hour with just a 10 HP motor.

So now I am using this design as a guide and am making four little foils to attach to the corners of my little pontoon boat I bought in May.

My goal is to go 15 to 20 miles per hour with my little 2 HP motor and get 80 miles per gallon.

I also went to Columbus on the weekend and saw Sue and Dad and called Maureen.

This summer's weather continues to be nice -not too hot and not too dry. We got another good drenching rain this morning.
